This Due Lune Nerello Mascalese Nero d’Avola 2019 is a red wine blend produced by the winery Cantine Cellaro in Sambuca di Sicilia (Agrigento) in the South-West part of the island of Sicily, Italy. The estate is renowned throughout Sicily and stands out as a true specialist for native grapes such as Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Capuccio and Grillo.
o produce the Due Lune Nerello Mascalese Nero d’Avola, the Cantine Cellaro cut 10 cm the vine before the bunch itself when they reach maturity and thus the natural drying process begins thanks to the warm Sicilian sun and the sirocco wind coming from Africa. When a weight reduction of 15-20% has been obtained, the grapes are harvested, pressed and fermentation begins in contact with the skins. After a very long maceration, the wine is decanted into oak barrels where it rests for about six months. The vintage 2019 of the Due Lune Nerello Mascalese Nero d’Avola is a dark purple wide-body red wine that offers power without heaviness. I enjoyed strong perfumes of dry plum, amarena cherries and hints of chocolate. The liquid is smooth with aromas of blackberries and hint of spices that fill the palate in a very long-lasting pleasure.
